St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox announced today that they have added three players to the 2014 roster. The players are Charles Galiano (Fordham University), Harrison Wenson (University of Michigan) and Troy Whitty (Louisiana State University)
Galiano, a 6-foot, 190 lbs. catcher joins the Rox following his sophomore season at Fordham University, where he hit .288 (49-for-170) in the spring of 2014, leading the Rams in doubles (11) and home runs (4) with 28 RBIs. He also held the second-highest slugging percentage for Fordham (.435) and scored 26 runs while boasting a .989 fielding percentage, committing just four errors in 357 chances behind the plate. Last season, Galiano hit .264 (47-for-178) for the Rams, leading the team in doubles (7), triples (5) and RBIs (31). He was drafted in the 36th round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies after hitting .410 as a senior at Commack High School (N.Y.)
Wenson was drafted in the 38th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers before enrolling at the University of Michigan. The 6-foot-3, 230 lbs. freshman hit .227 (10-for-44) for the Wolverines this spring, tallying five doubles and a triple in 11 starts and 21 appearances. Before Michigan, Wenson was a four-year letter winner at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy, earning first-team All-State honors in both his junior and senior seasons while hitting .500 with six home runs and 30 RBIs in his senior season.
Whitty, a 6-foot-5, 220 lbs. right-handed pitcher took a medical redshirt in his freshman season at Louisiana State University. Before his time with LSU, Whitty was a 2013 Perfect Game Northeast first-team All-Region member and a 2012 Perfect Game Underclass All-American Honorable Mention, going 6-0 that season with a 0.90 ERA at Dexter High School. He finished his high school career with a 15-1 overall record on the mound, being named to three Perfect Game All-American teams during that tenure.
The Rox home opener is Friday, May 30th at 7:05p.m. at Joe Faber Field presented by Coborn’s. The Rox take on the Willmar Stingers. There will be a post-game fireworks show.
