Rox Shut Out by Stingers in 6-0 Defeat

St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox could not overcome the pitching of Willmar starter Brady Anderson Tuesday night as the Stingers defeated the Rox 6-0 at Joe Faber Field. The Rox managed to tally five hits in the game, but Anderson kept St. Cloud off the scoreboard as he threw a complete-game shutout to move the Rox to 13-10 on the season.

Nick Jensen-Clagg (L, 0-1) made his first career start for the Rox on the mound, battling along side Anderson for the first three innings before the Stingers broke open the 0-0 tie in the third with three runs. Brian Pruett brought two in for the Stingers with a double that inning and Alex Borglin brought him in the next at bat with an RBI groundout. Matt Rodgers then came in to relieve Jensen-Clagg with two outs in the third and proceeded to force a fly out to end the inning.

Rodgers performed well in the relief role before Willmar tacked on two more in the sixth after Rodgers walked the bases loaded, which brought Trevor Jaunich in to pitch for the Rox. Jaunich then allowed a single and tallied a ground out which each brought in a run to give the Stingers a five-run lead after six.

From there Tyler Deel took over on the mound for the Rox, firing two strong innings of relief and striking out the side in the eighth inning to keep his ERA at 0.00 through 4.2 innings in 2014. Daniel Martinez then came in to pitch the ninth for the Rox, giving up one run in the process off one hit in the inning, coming from an RBI double from Casey Hughston to make it 6-0 Willmar.

The five Rox hits were all recorded by different players, as Bradley Strong, Eric Loxtercamp, Clay Ardeeser, Boo Vazquez and Mitchell Kranson each tallied singles for the Rox off Anderson (W, 3-0), who ended the day with five strikeouts.
