Willmar, MN – The St. Cloud Rox scored 11 times in the first five innings and tallied 15 hits total Friday night as they defeated the Willmar Stingers 11-5 to sweep the Stingers at Bill Taunton Stadium. The Rox ended up with four extra-base hits, including home runs from Boo Vazquez and Eric Loxtercamp as they have now won their fourth straight game and seventh total in the past eight games.
All 10 Rox players who entered the game offensively tallied hits Friday night as Chris Paul, Kade Scivicque, Seth Heck, Boo Vazquez and Liam Bedford each recorded two hits apiece in the victory. The Rox got on the board right away in the first inning as Scivicque doubled to bring in Paul and Morgan Phillips and get St. Cloud ahead early.
From there, they added two more runs in the second with a home run from Boo Vazquez, his fourth of the year, and continued their stretch in to the next inning when Heck singled to score Scivicque and Eric Loxtercamp followed up with a grand slam to give the Rox a commanding 9-0 lead after three innings. They tallied one more apiece in the next two innings to give starting pitcher Reese Gregory enough of a cushion as he threw 4.2 innings while giving up two earned runs and striking out four.
Reliever Trevor Charpie then came in to finish the fifth inning, and threw the next three innings as well while not giving up a run and fanning seven to pick up the victory (3-1). Tyler Peitzmeier then came in for the ninth and retired all three batters to give the Rox the victory, as they are now 7-4 in the second half and 26-20 overall.
