Rox Overpower Bullfrogs in 8-3 Victory

St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox totaled 12 hits Saturday night, including five for extra bases as they defeated the Green Bay Bullfrogs 8-3 at Joe Faber Field. The Rox also got help from the pitching of Austin Caspersen and Tyler Peitzmeier, who combined to allow just two earned runs on seven hits as the Rox are now 10-9 in the second half of the season and 29-25 overall.

Caspersen started on the mound for the Rox and picked up the victory (5-2) while allowing two runs on four hits in six innings of work. His two runs given up both came in the top of the third, but the Rox answered back in the bottom half of the inning with two of their own on a pair of singles from Clay Ardeeser and Will Craig to score Eric Loxtercamp and Morgan Phillips and tie the game at two after three.

The Rox then picked up another run in the fifth when Liam Bedford singled to left field and Ardeeser scored on the play after an error to give the Rox the lead. Peitzmeier then took over on the mound for Caspersen in the seventh inning and proceeded to fan five Bullfrogs in the final three innings and allow one run on three hits to pick up the save (2).

The Rox offense picked up five more runs in their final two trips to the plate, scoring two in the seventh and three in the eighth to give them a comfortable lead in the late innings. Chris Paul led off the seventh inning with a solo home run to left center, his seventh of the season, and the Rox tallied another in the inning when Boo Vazquez laced an RBI triple to score Bedford who doubled earlier in the inning. In the eighth, Phillips launched a three-run home run to score Loxtercamp and Harrison Wenson and give the Rox their final lead of 8-3.
