Mequon, WI – On Tuesday, July 22, 2014 college baseball’s best players took part in the 2014 Northwoods League All-Star Game presented by Fiduciary Management, Inc. The game was hosted by the Lakeshore Chinooks at Kapco Park on the campus of Concordia University in Mequon, Wis. in front of 2,106 fans.
The South needed just one home run to defeat the North in the 2014 Northwoods League All-Star Game. With two runners on in the fourth inning, Pete Alonso of the Madison Mallards hit a three-run home run to left center field, and the South had a 3-0 lead, which proved to be final.
Before the game, Rox infielder Chris Paul participated in the Home Run Challenge, where the North outhit the South 18-13 to take the crown thanks to one home run in the first round from Paul and four in the second to give him a total of five.
In the All-Star Game, Paul started for the North at third base and finished the game 1-for-4 with a single in the seventh inning. He then stole second base two batters later before being forced out later in the inning.
Rox pitcher Reese Gregory entered the game for the North in the second inning, where he struck out two batters swinging and forced a groundout in his one inning of work. Rox reliever Kevin Burgee also saw action on the mound Tuesday night, as he recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning including a strikeout, as the two Rox pitchers combined did not allow a base runner.
The Rox will return to action on Thursday, July 24th for a two-game series in Eau Claire with the Express, before returning to Joe Faber Field on Saturday, July 26th for a two-game series with the Duluth Huskies. July 26th will be Halloween in July, presented by Party City, and the first 400 kids 14-and-under will receive a candy bag for a post-game candy drop. There will also be a best costume contest that night, plus two fans will win a brand new bike.
