Rox and Express Split Sunday Doubleheader

St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox and the Eau Claire Express each took a game in Sunday’s doubleheader at Joe Faber Field, as the Rox were victorious in game one by a score of 2-0 before falling in the nightcap 5-0 to the Express after yesterday’s rainout. Both teams picked up wins due to brilliant pitching performances, as Reese Gregory picked up the win in game one by tossing a complete game shutout as the Rox are now 16-15 in the second half of the season and 35-31 overall.

Seth Heck broke the scoreless tie in game one as he singled to bring Mitchell Kranson across in the third inning and give the Rox the lead. The only other run of the evening for the Rox came in the sixth inning as Chris Paul sent a solo home run over the fence, his eighth of the year.

The two-run lead proved to be enough for Gregory as he threw all seven innings while allowing just six hits and striking out five as he was named Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night with the victory (6-2). The win also helped field manager Augie Rodriguez reach a milestone, as it was his 100th career victory as manager of the Rox.

In game two, the Rox fell victim to the pitching of Eau Claire as they totaled just five hits in the game while the Express took game two to earn the split. Nick McCarty took the loss (3-3) for the Rox as he threw six innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out five. Dalton Sawyer and Nick Denny then combined to throw the seventh and final inning as the Express added two more runs late.
