Rox Shine at Big League Dreams Showcase

Madison, WI – The St. Cloud Rox sent a league-high eight players to the 2014 Northwoods League Big League Dreams Showcase that took place Tuesday, where all eight played in game one for the North Division as they defeated the South Division 8-5 at Warner Park. Representing the Rox were catchers Kade Scivicque and Harrison Wenson, infielder Chris Paul, outfielder Morgan Phillips, and pitchers Josh Taylor, Chad Hockin, Tyler Peitzmeier and Dalton Sawyer.

The North Division broke a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning with two runs and added another in the seventh to go ahead 8-5 and take game one of the Showcase. The South came back with a victory in game two by defeating the North Division 11-6 to earn the split.

Josh Taylor took the start for the North Division in game one and allowed one run on one hit in his only inning pitched on the mound. The North Division then trailed 4-2 going in to the fourth when Kade Scivicque launched a solo home run to lead off the inning for the North as they then tallied another in the inning off an RBI double from Rox catcher Harrison Wenson to tie the game at four-apiece.

The North then tallied another run the following inning and brought St. Cloud reliever Chad Hockin in to throw the fifth, where he allowed a solo home run from Wisconsin’s Paul DeJong to tie the game again. The North eventually retook the lead the following inning after St. Cloud’s Morgan Phillips walked to lead off the inning and scored in the next at-bat off a two-run home run from Green Bay’s Franco Guardascione.

Rox pitcher Tyler Peitzmeier then threw the sixth inning and allowed no runs on one hit to keep the North ahead. The final North Division run scored when Chris Paul walked to lead off the seventh inning and scored on a wild pitch to give them eight runs in the game.

Dalton Sawyer came in to throw the ninth for the North Division and proceeded to force two fly outs and a fielder’s choice after allowing a lead off base runner to earn the save. After the two runs scored by the North with Hockin in the game, he picked up the win on the mound in their game one victory with one inning pitched.

Scivicque finished the Showcase 2-for-4 after singling in the fifth inning to add to his solo home run as the only North Division player in game one with multiple hits. Paul recorded a hit and scored two runs off two walks with a stolen base in the game and Morgan Phillips walked twice as well as the North tallied nine total base on balls when at the plate.

The Rox will now head back to Rochester to finish a two-game series with the Honkers tonight at 7:05 p.m. They return home on Thursday, August 7th for a two-game series with Thunder Bay, which is Summertime St. Patty’s Night, where the first 500 fans 21 and older will receive a Rox pint glass, presented by Miller Lite.
