St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud Rox defeated the Waterloo Bucks 8-4 Thursday night to complete a two game sweep. The Rox are now 2-0 in the second half of the season.
Domenick Carlini (Southeastern Louisiana University) started on the mound for the Rox and went five innings, striking out six batters, scattering four hits and only allowing one earned run. Carlini’s season ERA is now at 2.30.
Collin Strall (Louisiana State University) came in for 0.2 innings and struck out one batter. Brian Glowicki (University of Minnesota) came in after Strall and went the rest of the 3.1 innings. He struck out four batters and only allowed one hit.
Five Rox batters had RBIs while seven players had at least one hit. The offense started in the second inning when Joe Tietjen (UNC Asheville) scored on an error off the bat of Liam Bedford (Doane College).
The fourth inning proved to be an offensive explosion for the Rox as they put up four runs. Lee Miller (Davidson College) doubled in Austin Athmann (University of Minnesota) then was followed by Brandon Benson (Georgia College) as he singled in Miller. Webb Bobo (Southeastern Louisiana University) would also have a RBI single as Benson came in to score. The scoring in the fourth inning ended with Jake Farr (Tennessee Tech) doubling in Bobo.
In the seventh inning Athmann continued his hot streak as he singled in Brett Pope (Western Carolina University). That RBI was followed by a Miller single that scored Connor Crane (McNeese State) to make the score 7-4.
The offensive onslaught seen by a crowd of 1,542 ended in the eighth inning after Bobo once again singled in Benson.
The Rox will travel to Thunder Bay for a two-game series starting tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. After Thunder Bay the team will travel to Eau Claire as they take on the Express.
The Rox will return home on Tuesday, July 7th as they take on the Alexandria Blue Anchors. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. but gates will open at 6:05 p.m. That game will be a Chisel Youth Jersey Giveaway presented by Coborn’s, Times Media, 104.7 KCLD and WILD Country 99. First 400 kids 14 and under.
