St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud Rox defeated the Duluth Huskies 10-3 Tuesday night to advance to the Northwoods League Championship Series.

Zach Pop (University of Kentucky) was the starting pitcher for the Rox and went 2.0 innings. Erik Martinez (Cal-Berkeley) came in for 4.0 innings of relief. He struck out two batters and only allowed two hits while picking up the win.

Brian Glowicki (University of Minnesota) finished off the final two innings where he struck out one batter and only allowed one hit.

The scoring for the Rox start right away in the first inning when John Sansone (Florida State University) hit a solo home run over the left field fence and onto the neighboring golf course.

Brett Pope (Western Carolina University) scored in the second inning when Marcus Carson (University of Kentucky) singled. Another run was added to the scoreboard in the third inning when Sansone scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Pope.

Two runs were added in the fifth inning when Liam Bedford (Doane College) ripped a double down the left field line, scoring Michael Strem (Boston College) and Sansone.

The St. Cloud offense exploded in the sixth inning for five runs. The scoring started with Carson hitting into a fielders choice that scored Lee Miller (Davidson College). Sansone hit a single with the bases full that scored Carson and Brandon Benson (Georgia College). A Duluth error allowed Strem and Sansone to score the ninth and tenth runs of the game.

Eight different Rox would reach base while seven different players recorded at least one hit.

The Rox have won 10 straight games and 12 straight games at home.

The Rox will play the Kenosha Kingfish game in the Northwoods Championship Series. The first game will be played in Kenosha at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday night. Game two will be played on Friday at the Rock Pile at 7:05 p.m. If game three is necessary it will be played in St. Cloud at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday.
