Madison, WI – In the Rox first ever trip to Warner Park in franchise history; St. Cloud (23-9) blanked Madison 4-0. This is the second straight shutout victory for the club and 7th total in 2016. It was a dominant pitching performance from St. Cloud. LHP Logan Salow (Kentucky) zoomed through hitter after hitter and ultimately finished with 6 shutout innings. Salow did not allow a lead off batter to reach base all night. The southpaw also recorded 7 strikeouts and has a total of 37 K on the year to lead the team. He improves his record this summer with the club to 3-1.
Playoff UPDATE – Rox remain in 1st place and 1.5 games up on the Eau Claire Express with 3 games left in the first half (magic number – 2 wins). If St. Cloud hangs on to first place in the North Division for the next 3 games, the Rox will be crowned division champions for the first half and clinch a playoff spot for August.
Drew Freedman jumpstarted the offense. He hit a line drive down the right field line to score Webb Bobo in the 3rd inning. Freedman’s hitting streak extended to 10 games. St. Cloud added more offense in the 4th inning. Mason Mamarella (Kent State) was an offensive sparkplug. He connected with an RBI single, which scored Michael Strem (Boston College). The Rox led 2-0 after 4 innings.
The 8th inning brought a little bit more insurance for St. Cloud. Mason Mamarella recorded his 3rd hit of the game and that presented the Rox with a bases loaded opportunity. Brett Pope (Western Carolina) delivered with a two-run single to score Strem and Denis Karas (California)
Madison only mustered 4 hits all game. This was also credited to Rox reliever Robbie Palkert (Nebraska) who worked a flawless 3 innings to conclude the contest. Palkert earned his 4th save of the season and only surrendered one hit in his outing.
The Rox resume action against the Mallards Sunday at Warner Park. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m. CT and the Rox Solid Pregame Warmup starts at 4:35 p.m on 1390 AM The Fan. RHP Shelby Lackey (Pacific) is the starter for St. Cloud. The Rox will look for their 24th victory of the season.
