Rochester, MN – The Rox pitching staff held Rochester hitless from the 5th inning onward in their 6-2 victory on Saturday night. St. Cloud improves to 2-1 in the second half of the season and 26-12 overall. Shelby Lackey made a terrific start for the Rox and was backed up by Robbie Palkert (Nebraska) and Brian Glowicki (Minnesota). Palkert tossed 2 shutout innings and Glowicki recorded 3 strikeouts to end the game in the 9th.
Lackey (Pacific) turned in a very impressive start on the mound. The right-hander tied a season long 6 innings and only allowed two runs (one earned). The Linden, CA native finished his outing by retiring the last 9 batters. He faced 24 batters in the game and threw first pitch strikes to 20 of them to get ahead in the count.
St. Cloud trailed 2-0 to Rochester heading into the top of the 5th inning and that is when the offense showed up. With two outs, Webb Bobo (Southeastern Louisiana) walked, Brhet Bewley (San Diego) got hit by a pitch, and Ben DeLuzio (Florida State) walked to start the rally. Rochester’s starter was called for a balk and that allowed Bobo to score. Then, Ricky Ramirez (McNeese State) and Luke Ringhofer (South Dakota State) each collected RBI singles. The Rox took a 3-2 advantage after 5 innings.
Brandon Benson (Georgia College) filled in as a defensive replacement in the 6th inning and in his first at-bat in the 7th, he swung at the first pitch a crushed a solo home run to left field. St. Cloud held a 4-2 over Rochester.
St. Cloud returns to Joe Faber Field on Sunday, July 10th with a matchup against the La Crosse Loggers. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. CT and the Rox Solid Pregame Warmup starts at 5:35 p.m on 1390 AM The Fan. RHP Austin Caspersen (St. Cloud State) will make the start for the Rox. It is Super Hero Night presented by Mobil Super!. The Rox will play 10 of their next 11 games at the Rockpile!
