Rox Win Three Straight Game
St. Cloud, Minn. – A big night at the plate from Michael Strem (Boston College) and more solid relief pitching brought the St. Cloud Rox (3-1 second half, 27-12 overall) to a 5-3 win over the La Crosse Loggers (2-3 second half, 19-22 overall). It was the third win in three games for the Rox since dropping the opening game of the second half.
Strem had three hits in the game, leading all St. Cloud batters. He would score a run in the fourth after leading off with a ground rule double down the right field line. He would add singles in the sixth and seventh to complete his night at the plate.
The Rox scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third. Luke Ringhofer would come into score on that pitch after drawing his team-high 34th walk of the game. Ringhofer is only one walk away from tying the Rox franchise record for most walks in a season.
After La Crosse scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead, St. Cloud answered in the sixth. Singles by Denis Karas (Cal Berkeley) and Drew Freedman (Wake Forest) brought in two runs giving the Rox a lead they would not lose. The Rox would add an insurance run in the seventh as Ringhofer singled home Brandon Benson (Georgia College and State University).
Reliever Chris Martin (Kent State) came ion in the fifth for his 11th appearance of the year. Martin threw three innings allowing only one hit and no runs. He also struck out three batters in his outing.
Martin was followed on the mound by Brian Glowicki, who was working for the second straight night. Much like Martin, Glowicki was phenomenal on the mound, tossing two innings allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out two batters.
The Rox now own a record of 12-2 at Joe Faber Field, dropping only one game in each half of the season thus far. They will play six games at home in the next seven days and 13 games at home in the rest of the month.
