Thunder Bay, ON — Shane Selman (McNeese State) is bringing it each and every day. For the last 5 games including tonight he has driven in at least one run. Unfortunately for the Rox, after winning 5 straight games they had an off night Saturday dropping the series finale to the Border Cats 8-3. St. Cloud for the next couple hours is tied with Waterloo for 1st place in the North Division. With a Bucks win they would take over the top spot by half a game with 10 games left in the 1st half of the Northwoods League regular season.
Drew Avans (Southeastern Louisiana) drove in the other two Rox runs on an RBI double in the 5th inning. Avans, who leads the team with 20 runs scored this season flipped the switch in that frame. The Alabama native recorded his 5th run batted in after Mason Mamarella (Kent State) and Spencer Holcomb (Western Carolina) scored on his double. The two reached base after hits with two outs in the inning.
Cameron Eden (Cal) and Keaton Kringlen (BYU) were the only other players with hits tonight for STC. On a night where the Border Cats hit a three run home run in the bottom of the 1st it set the tone early, and they never looked back. Still, the Rox are in the driver's seat fighting for breathing room at the top with the Bucks. Both teams split their 4 games in the 1st half and will not play again until the 2nd half of the season.
After two games in Ontario, St. Cloud heads down the road to Rochester to wrap up their long week away from home. The Rox face the Honkers for the 3rd time this season tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 PM. Then we return on Monday for Faith in Action Night! First pitch is at 7:05 PM against the Honkers and there will be a pregame youth baseball and softball clinic presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, YMCA and Northland Capital Financial Services. It is also our 1st Military Monday this season! The 1st 75 active military members or veterans with a valid ID or military discharge papers will receive a free Rox hat, with the purchase of a reserve ticket.
