St. Cloud, MN — Aaron Rozek (Minnesota State-Mankato) has been one of, if not the best pitcher in the Northwoods League this summer. In another stellar start, the Junior did everything he possibly could to give his team another win. In 7 scoreless innings, he just allowed 7 baserunners and recorded 11 strikeouts. The Rox held a lead late but could not hold on, and fell to the Stingers 4-3 in extra innings Monday night.
Rozek continued his dominance from last Monday, where he threw 7 more scoreless innings against the Border Cats, and also had 11 strikeouts. Tonight he lowered his ERA to 2.48 on the year, and continued to make hitters look silly. He deservingly earned the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night for the 4th time this year thanks to his efforts.
St. Cloud started strong early, and took the lead with their 3rd batter of the game. Matthew Tarantino (Pacific) doubled off the wall and scored Drew Avans (Southeastern Louisiana) after his lead-off walk. It wouldn't score again until the 4th after a Cameron Eden's (Cal) RBI single. The Rox then took a bigger lead thanks to Keaton Kringlen's (BYU) RBI single in the 5th inning.
Kringlen and BYU teammate Daniel Schneemann combined for 5 of the 10 Rox hits tonight and put together another strong outing. They are also the only two players on the team still hitting above .300 at this point in the season.
