St. Cloud, MN — What a way to finish a double-header. A team with a flair for the dramatic has done it again. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th inning, the Rox rallied just in time. Brendan Illies (North Carolina) tallied his 4th hit of the night with one out, which set up Cameron Eden (Cal). After taking two pitches, on the third Eden hammered a ball hung over the middle of the plate and catapulted his club to a dramatic 3-2 win.
It was St. Cloud's 2nd walk-off home run of the season and 1st since June 7th. It ended up splitting the double-header, and still remains one game back of Mankato for the best overall record in the North Division.
Illies had the only other RBI in the game, and became just the 3rd player this season to rack up 4 hits in a game. He went 4-4 with an RBI single in the 4th.
Keaton Kringlen (BYU) was the only other player with multiple hits before the Rox completed another come-from-behind victory.
The Rox were in a position to win it late thanks to another solid outing on the mound. Kyle Boser (St. Cloud State) had another solid start where he went more than 5 innings and kept the MoonDogs at bay.
There were big performances from the bullpen as well. Bobby Gauvreau (Minnesota State-Mankato) carried the Rox from the 6th until the end of the 8th keeping them at a one run deficit. In 2.2 innings pitched he struck out 4 and only allowed 1 hit. Brent Killam (Georgetown) took the ball in the 9th and snagged another win to improve to 5-0.
St. Cloud now settles down and goes back to just playing one game a day starting tomorrow. The MoonDogs are still in town, and the two teams will play again tomorrow at 7:05 PM. Tomorrow's promotion features a Rox trading card set giveaway presented by Rengel Printing and Times Media to the 1st 500 fans at the game.
