St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox, the 2017 Northwoods League Champions, announced Wednesday the organization has signed three players from Brigham Young University for the 2018 season.
Those players include pitcher Kenny Saenz, who is returning from the 2017 championship team, pitcher Jake Suddreth and catcher/infielder Noah Hill.
Saenz returns to St. Cloud after appearing in 12 games with the Rox in 2017. During that span, Saenz tallied a 4.66 earned run average, along with 76 strikeouts in 54 innings. Saenz, a junior left-handed pitcher, is in his first full season with BYU after redshirting a year ago due to NCAA transfer rules. So far this season, Saenz has appeared in 12 games for the Cougars, striking out 22 in 24 innings of work.
Suddreth, a right-handed pitcher, is in his sophomore season at BYU. The Arizona native holds a record of 2-2 this season with an earned run average of 4.15 in 17.1 innings. He has given up eight earned runs and five walks, while striking out 22 and tallying three saves. Suddreth is in his first year at BYU after transferring from Mesa Community College, where he recorded a nation-leading 16 saves and was named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team and All-ACCAC Region DII Team.
Hill, a catcher and infielder, is in his junior season with the Cougars. A Texas native, Hill currently has a .260 batting average in 19 games this year for BYU. He has two doubles, six RBI, six walks and 13 hits. In 2017, Hill appeared in 18 games at BYU, finishing with a .320 batting average.
Director of Baseball Operations Augie Rodriguez, Field Manager Al Newman and the Rox organization will continue to build the roster for the upcoming season. To date, the Rox have 21 players signed for the 2018 season. For the complete roster, click here.
The Rox will play their 7th season of Northwoods League Baseball in 2018. The home opener at Joe Faber Field is scheduled for Friday, June 1 at 7:05 p.m. against the Mankato MoonDogs.
