St. Cloud, MN – The 2017 Northwoods League Champions St. Cloud Rox returned home on Saturday night to take on the Waterloo Bucks after having grabbed two impressive wins over the Rochester Honkers on Thursday and Friday.

The Rox continued to stay hot in the second half of the Northwoods League season, beating the Bucks 12-2 in front of a packed Rock Pile crowd to extend their winning streak to three in a row.

St. Cloud kicked off scoring in the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three runs highlighted by RBI singles from Jack Barrie (Reinhardt) and Ricardo Sanchez (Arkansas at Pine Bluff).

The Rox continued the trend, grabbing two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, adding three more in the bottom of the seventh inning while finishing it off with four runs in the bottom of the eighth. St. Cloud ended up tallying 17 total hits in the game.

Barrie finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI and Sanchez went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Rox at the plate. Ryan Weisenberg (Georgetown) finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI, Connor Aube (Texas at Arlington) went 1-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI and Ryan Davis (Georgetown) added two hits and two runs scored.

Jake Stevenson (Minnesota) pitched 6.2 stellar innings to start things off on the mound for the Rox, picking up the win. He gave up just four hits, two runs and struck out 10 in the game. Sergio Esparza (Arkansas at Pine Bluff) pitched 1.1 shutout innings in relief, while Landon Clifton (LSU Eunice) pitched the final inning to close out the game.

St. Cloud (16-13 second half, 32-33 overall) will return back to the Rock Pile at 4:05 p.m. Sunday to wrap up a two-game series with Waterloo. The game will be Hot Dog Hundo presented by Manea’s Meats, where fans will have the chance to win cash prizes up to $100 by purchasing a hot dog from the main concessions stand. It will also be a Coborn’s Kids Day, where kids will have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs from players and coaches on the field after the game.
