St. Cloud, MN – St. Cloud (3-5) got a terrific start from RJ Martinez (Minot State), who hurled seven innings in the 7-2 win against the Duluth Huskies (5-3) in the series finale. The Rox recorded 10 hits in the victory.
After quickly falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, the Rox scored Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) from third base after a balk was issued.
In the bottom of the third inning, St. Cloud loaded the bases and scored Ben Carew (Kent State) on a wild pitch to take a 2-1 lead.
With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rox would begin a stretch of four consecutive scoring innings. With two outs and the bases empty, Steiger drew a walk and Jordan Barth (Augustana) recorded an infield single. Brendan Tinsman (Wake Forest) singled to left field and scored Steiger to claim a 3-2 lead.
The Rox would plate two runs in the home half of the sixth inning, highlighted by a Steiger RBI double. The lead was extended to 5-2.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Freddy Achecar (Georgetown) drilled a triple to the gap in right field that scored Thomas Delgadillo (Academy of Art) from first base. With one more run scoring in the bottom of the eighth off of an error, St. Cloud took the 7-2 lead into the top of the ninth inning.
Blake Stelzer (Concordia-St. Paul), who pitched the eighth inning in relief, closed out the game in the top of the ninth inning.
The Rox now open a two-game series with the Mankato MoonDogs on Wednesday with a 6:35 first pitch time at Franklin Rogers Park.
