LA CROSSE, WI – The St. Cloud Rox (12-5) took game one against the La Crosse Loggers (3-12), with a 4-1 final score, Thursday, June 15th. In the Great Plains West division, the Rox sit among the top teams in the division.
The winning pitcher for St. Cloud was Piercen McElyea, who has a 3-0 record over his first three starts. McElyea went 6.0 no-hit innings, striking out seven batters. McElyea faced the minimum number of batters in four-straight innings, from the 2nd inning to the 5th inning. The Edmond, Oklahoma native has had a stellar start to the season, throwing 17.0 innings, giving up just two hits and no runs along with 18 strikeouts.
Matt Goetzmann had the best day at the plate for St. Cloud, with two of the team’s seven hits. Goetzmann scored once and batted a run in. John Nett continued to have success for the Rox, hitting his third double of the season to plate two runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Nett has 11 hits in eight games this season. Ozzie Pratt drove in another run for St. Cloud in the 2nd inning, also coming around to score on Nett’s double.
Brandon Jaenke was the 1st pitcher to come out of the bullpen for St. Cloud. Jaenke collected two strikeouts for the Rox in his 6th appearance of the season. Andrew Morones made his 2023 debut for St. Cloud, going 1.1 innings without giving up a run. Jake Burcham closed out the game for St. Cloud, throwing just ten pitches in the final inning to put down La Crosse.

The Rox stay in La Crosse for game two against the Loggers, Friday, June 16th for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
