NEW SEASON, SAME DAY
Hunter Day made his season debut at the Rockpile last night. The four-year veteran of the Rox earned the “Star of the Game” award in the contest, going seven innings strong while only allowing three runs, and picking up four strikeouts. That makes Day the fifth starting pitcher this season for St. Cloud to allow three earned runs or less in their first start of the year.
“WE BRING THE BOOM”
The Rox have picked up right where they left off in the power department this year. St. Cloud has already smashed five long-balls since the season began on Monday, led by Austin Haley had two homers on the North Dakota road trip with one in each series vs Minot and Bismarck. Grant Sommers, Jackson Cooke, and Tyler Bishop each added one “big fly” each to cap off a great offensive road trip. The Rox lead the Northwoods League with 5 home runs.
“THAT’S WHAT WE DO”
On the opposite side of the offensive spectrum, the Rox have also prided themselves on being able to play some small ball in the early part of the season. The Rox come into today third in the NWL in team stolen bases. The club is also first in the league in sac-fly’s while also sitting second in the Northwoods in total sacrifice hits.
PROBABLE STARTERS (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)
STC- Jake Burcham gets the ball for St. Cloud tonight. Burcham enters his second full season with St. Cloud, having pitched in parts of three years in the Granite City. With the Rox, he holds a 3.56 ERA with 20 K’s in his time spent with the ball club.
BBS- Tanner Folds gets the start for the Big Sticks. Folds hails from Shorter University and will be making his second start of the season for Badlands. In his first start against Willmar, he went seven innings while allowing two runs and four hits.
