Recounting Mankato

The Rox won both contests against Mankato, putting their record at 4-2 in the second half, good for second-best in the Great Plains West behind Willmar’s 4-1 total. St. Cloud won the first match 5-3, with runs scored by each batter in the 9-4 stretch in the order; Tanner Recchio, Aidan Mouton, Colton Rother, Austin Haley, and Alex Dupuy. The Rox were powered by Manning West’s seven innings and 13 strikeouts while allowing just three hits.

The next day, St. Cloud won with a wider margin, at 8-4. Emerson McKnight dazzled once more, with eight strikeouts in five innings, also only giving up three hits. The three to come out of the pen behind him (Tarango, Stuart, Jaenke) combined for four innings, four baserunners, four strikeouts, and a lone run.

Stars Out

The All-Star game concluded Wednesday in Dyersville, Iowa, with the Rox bringing nine faces.

  • Ethan Felling got to start things off for the Great Plains, allowing one run and one hit in 16 pitches.
  • Nolan Geislinger bat second in the order, getting on base once by getting plunked.
  • Hunter Poe and Eli Lamb were both selected as reserves, but did not see playing time.
  • Brady Ferguson was the last on the mound for the Plains before the game concluded. He registered one out with a strikeout.
  • Brandon Jaenke registered two outs, one coming with a strikeout.
  • Field Manager Nick Studdard, Pitching Coach Chris Garcia, and Hitting Coach Beau Kirsch represented the Great Plains. The game ended early due to rain, with the Great Lakes winning 4-2 after eight innings.

Three’s A Magic Number

The Rox were joined by three new faces for the Mankato games, where all of which contributed throughout the series.

  • Brady Stuart threw from the bullpen in the second contest, striking out two in an inning’s work while allowing a run.
  • Brett Griffiths started at shortstop in the latter game, going 1-3 with a run, walk, and strikeout.
  • Anthony St. Vincent came out of the chute in the first game, going 0.2 innings with a run and a pair of walks.

Haley Hucks Again

Austin Haley has talent as both a position player and pitcher with the Rox. In the two games against the ‘Dogs, he bat 3-6 with two runs and two RBI. In the first game, though, he also took the mound for the first time all season and second time with St. Cloud. He chucked 1.1 innings, tallied three strikeouts, and earned the save, also his first with the Rox.

Diamond In the Glove

Kaden Amundson has played just four games with the Rox to this point, but he’s called two marvels from behind the plate. He first caught Emerson McKnight on June 30 to start the second half, and the two worked a complete game shutout, with 10 strikeouts to their name. Then, with Manning West on July 5, teamed up for 13 punchouts in seven innings. It’s also the longest each arm has gone so far with the Rox.
