ST. CLOUD, MN – The St. Cloud Rox (41-27) defeated the Minot Hot Tots (26-43) 7-1 on Friday ahead of the regular-season finale at Joe Faber Field on Saturday at 6:05 PM.
The Rox have clinched the best regular-season win percentage in the Great Plains West, which means the Rox have home-field advantage in a best-of-three series against the Willmar Stingers to open the postseason. The first playoff game at Joe Faber Field will be on Monday, August 10th, and you can purchase playoff tickets here.
The Rox took a 3-1 lead in the first inning as the offense strung together quality plate appearances. Brett White (University of Iowa) drove in the first run with an RBI double, and Jackson Akin (University of Minnesota) added the second with a sacrifice fly. White eventually made it home on a dropped third strike to claim the two-run lead.
White furthered the advantage for the Rox in the bottom of the third inning by scorching the baseball over the wall for a two-run home run. His second home run of the season put the Rox up by four before Luke Haney (University of the Pacific) added on a sacrifice fly.
Colin Fike (Iowa Central CC) delivered four innings on the mound in his first start of the year, and held Minot to just one run.
The Rox scored one more time in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double from Jaixen Frost (University of Iowa) before Lucas Harrington (Northwestern State University) closed the show on the mound to secure the 7-1 victory.
