Joey Stock is officially a professional baseball player. On Friday, Stock signed a free-agent contract with the Boston Red Sox. Stock just recently completed his third summer with the St. Cloud Rox and will await instructions from Boston. With minor league baseball enduring a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stock’s options likely include some means of an instructional league and/or private, guided training directed by the Red Sox staff.

Stock is a hard-throwing right-hander that played for St. John’s University (MN). Due to the 2020 season being cut short, Stock was granted another year of eligibility and then transferred to the University of Milwaukee Wisconsin. The 2020 season was his third with the Rox where he participated in the NWL’s 2019 Major League Dreams Showcase and compiled a 2-1 record, a 4.64 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 33 innings (30 appearances) over those three seasons. Stock is the 64th Rox player to be apart of an MLB organization.

The St. Cloud Rox are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League.
