Bismarck, ND – St. Cloud (50-18) took the final game of the regular season to extra innings and won in the tenth inning, 6-3, over Bismarck (23-45).

O’Neill Burgos (Southern) came through with the big swing of the night in the top of the tenth, hitting his third home run of the season to put the Rox on top. Burgos drove in three runs with the long ball to left and helped the Rox to the big win.

In the ninth, the Rox were down by two runs and needed a rally. Will Worthington (San Diego) led off the inning with his third hit of the game, singling to right field. Worthington came into score the first run on a Gustavo Nava (Southern) sacrifice fly.

Then, Trevor Austin (Mercer) stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Austin drew a walk with a full count to drive in the tying run and extend the game into the bottom of the ninth.

Brandon Jaenke (Viterbo) came in for the bottom of the ninth, trying to get the game to extras. Jaenke worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth before tossing a perfect tenth inning to finish off the victory.

In his first start of the season, Payton Cooper (Nunez CC) worked four solid innings, only giving up two runs on the day. Cooper induced two inning-ending double plays in the first two innings of the night.

The win marks the 50th win of the season for St. Cloud on this year, its second consecutive summer ending the regular season with 50 wins. The Rox are the first team in Northwoods League history to accomplish that feat.

The Rox will start the playoffs Sunday in Willmar, before returning home for game two in St. Cloud on Monday. First pitch on Sunday in game one is scheduled for 5:05 pm, while the Rox’ first home playoff game will be at 7:05 pm from the Rock Pile on Monday.
