DULUTH, MN – The St. Cloud Rox (40-23) took victory in game one against the Duluth Huskies (34-29) with an 8-3 final score, Monday, August 7th. The Rox continue the season series with a 5-2 record against Duluth. St. Cloud’s magic number for wins to clinch a playoff spot is two.
The starting pitcher for St. Cloud was Cade Lommel. Lommel made his 8th start for St. Cloud, giving up two earned runs while striking out two batters over 5.2 innings pitched. Over 11 total appearances this season, Lommel has thrown the second-most innings for St. Cloud with 41.1 innings pitched. Lommel has a 4.14 ERA and 31 strikeouts during the 2023 season.
Michael McNamara had a solo home run in the 3rd inning, his 3rd home run of the season. McNamara has six extra-base hits and 10 RBI over his last seven games. Jose Gonzalez drove in three runs to give the Rox the lead in a four-run 6th inning. Gonzalez added on with a double, his third extra-base hit in his last two games. Anthony Mata had two hits, two walks, and a run scored. Mata has 20 runs scored over 25 games this season. Sawyer Smith reached base four times, with a single and three walks, also scoring twice. Smith has a .421 on-base percentage and 17 runs scored through 26 games played this season.
Daniel Caylor came out of the bullpen and worked through 3.1 innings, striking out six batters and holding the Huskies scoreless. Caylor has a 2.35 ERA and nine strikeouts over four appearances this season.
