MANKATO, MN – The St. Cloud Rox (40-25) fell just short to the Mankato MoonDogs (33-33) 11-8 on Tuesday ahead of a four-day homestand to end the regular season.
The Rox have clinched the best regular-season win percentage in the Great Plains West, which means the Rox have home-field advantage in a best-of-three series to open the postseason. The first playoff game at Joe Faber Field will be on Monday, August 10th, and you can purchase playoff tickets here.
St. Cloud struck first in the game as Tanner Recchio (University of Minnesota) sprinted home from second base on a groundout in the top of the first to give the Rox a 1-0 lead.
The Rox took the advantage again in the top of the third, scoring two runs to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Rox. Aidan Mouton (University of Kansas) made it home on a double steal, and Colton Rother (University of Kansas) drove in a run on his birthday with a single.
Trailing by six in the top of the seventh inning, the Rox offense began to roll. After loading the bases, the hits started to appear. Singles from Jackson Akin (University of Minnesota), Nolan Geislinger (University of Oregon), and Owen Estabrook (Columbia University) drove in a combined four runs to pull the game within two at 9-7. Needing more, the Rox used the double steal, with Estabrook taking off from first base to give Geislinger time to sprint home. With Geislinger scoring, the Rox trailed by just one at a 9-8 deficit.
The rally ultimately fell short as the MoonDogs found momentum of their own, but the Rox end the regular season at home with four straight games at Joe Faber Field.

The Rox return home to host Mankato on Wednesday, August 5th, at 6:35 PM. The game will be presented by St. Cloud Subaru, and there will be a Kickball Giveaway for the first 300 kids at Joe Faber Field.
