EAU CLAIRE, WI – The St. Cloud Rox (45-28) won their third Great Plains Championship in the past six seasons with a 10-5 victory over the Eau Claire Express (48-25) on Wednesday and will host the Northwoods League title game on Thursday, August 13th, at 6:35 PM.
The Rox will host the Royal Oak Leprechauns at 6:35 PM at Joe Faber Field on Thursday, August 13th, and you can purchase tickets here.
The Rox jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Jaixen Frost (University of Iowa) and Nolan Geislinger (University of Oregon) drove in three runs with two hits.
Tanner Recchio (University of Minnesota) smashed the ball over the right-field fence for his second home run of the season in the top of the third, extending the lead to four.
With the game tied at 4-4, Brett Griffiths (Ball State University) crushed the ball into left field for a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to take the 7-4 lead.
Frost scored on a stolen base in the top of the eighth, and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth to add insurance and make the score 10-5 in favor of the Rox.
JR Tollett (University of Louisiana-Lafayette) closed the game on the mound to secure the victory. With the win, the Rox advance to the Northwoods League Championship and will host the Royal Oak Leprechauns on Thursday, August 13th, at 6:35 PM. Purchase tickets here.
