St. Cloud, MN – The St. Cloud Rox came up just short in Game 2 of the doubleheader with the Eau Claire Express on Wednesday night.

The Rox fell to the Express 7-5 at the Rock Pile to split the day/night doubleheader after they won Game 1, 13-1.

St. Cloud got on the board first in the game, recording one run in the first inning on a throwing error by Eau Claire that brought home Gus Steiger (South Dakota State). The Rox later added three more runs in the fourth inning, thanks to a two-RBI single from Ben Carew (Kent State) that ended up bringing a third run home on an Express error.

After Eau Claire tallied three runs in the top of the fifth inning, Ryan Davis (Georgetown) recorded his first home run of the season, blasting a shot to right field to push the St. Cloud lead to 5-3. The Express ended up coming back and score two runs in each of the seventh and ninth innings to pull away with the win.

Davis led the Rox at the plate in the game, going 3-for-4 with a home run and one RBI. Carew finished 1-for-4 with two RBI, Steiger and Bobby Seymour (Wake Forest) each had one hit and one run scored and Jack Barrie (Northwestern Ohio) added one hit for St. Cloud.

Evan Johnson (Creighton) starting things off on the mound for the Rox, pitching six innings and earning a no-decision. Johnson gave up five hits, three runs and just one walk.

St. Cloud (15-15 overall) continues on in its homestand against the Bismarck Larks at 7:05 p.m. Thursday back at the Rock Pile. The game will be Military Appreciation Night presented by Advantage 1 Insurance Agency. The Rox will be wearing special military jerseys and will auction them off online after the game, with proceeds benefiting Vietnam Veterans of America Central Minnesota Chapter 290. The first 300 fans into the game will also receive a military hero baseball card set.

The Rox are in their seventh season of Northwoods League Baseball in 2018. Single game and group tickets for the entire season are on sale now.
