Mankato, MN– Alex Carrillo (Faulkner) pitched a complete game and struck out 12 batters as St. Cloud (37-21) beat Mankato 7-1 in game two of the doubleheader on Monday. The Rox have won 14 of their last 17 games.
Jack Kelly (Minnesota) blasted a solo home run in the second inning as the Rox claimed an early lead. They would move ahead 2-0 in the third inning, following a single up the middle from Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) that scored Ben Carew (Kent State) from second base.
Kelly drove in another run in the sixth inning, hitting a single that scored Garett Delano (Brown). Daniel Montgomery Jr. (Southwestern) later scored Kelly on a base hit. In the seventh inning, Barth scored on an error to put the Rox ahead 5-1.
The Rox added two runs in the ninth inning off of an error and a sac-fly from Freddy Achecar (Georgetown) that scored Jordan Barth (Augustana).
Carrillo finished with 12 strikeouts and one walk in his third win of the season on the mound. The 12 strikeouts is the most by any Rox pitcher in a start this season and one behind tying the franchise record.
