Despite four games being delayed, postponed or suspended, there was a six game slate with plenty of exciting action. Kenosha swept Wisconsin in a double-header while Lakeshore pulled ahead in the eighth to down Green Bay. Meanwhile, Madison had no problem and jumped out to a 4-0 lead while Willmar used a four-run fifth.
Kenosha 4, Wisconsin 3 (Game 1, 7 innings)
Kenosha picked up their second win in a row against the Woodchucks in the first game of the second double header in a row between these two teams. The Kingfish walked off as Pat Porter (Ohio State) singled with Buddy Reed (Florida) on first. The Woodchucks right fielder made an error on the play, allowing Reed to race around the basepaths for the game-winning run. Reliever Coley Thompkins (Campbell) picked up the win with a scoreless inning of work in relief.
Kenosha 4, Wisconsin 1 (Game 2, 7 innigns)
The Kingfish picked up a double-header sweep and their third straight win against the Woodchucks with a 4-1 victory. NWL Pitcher of the Night Rex Morrow (Madison Col) threw a complete game, striking out six and giving up just one run on four hits. Wisconsin starter Seth Davis (Augustana) gave up four earned runs on five hits and a season high five walks. Three different Kenosha players picked up a RBI.
Madison 7, Kalamazoo 4
Madison picked up a series split with Kalamazoo as they downed the Growlers, 7-4. The Mallards scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, fighting off a ninth inning rally to snap a two-game losing skid. Trace Tam Sing (Washington St) had a double and a triple on a two-run day while teammate Pete Alonso (Florida) hit a RBI single. Starter Kirby Snead (Florida) gave up just one earned run over six innings while striking out five without a walk, while Tim Black (Central Michigan) picked up his league-leading 12th save (tied with Adam Dian, Waterloo).
Willmar 6, Duluth 4
A four-run fifth carried the Stingers to a 6-4 win over Duluth as Willmar picked up their third win in their last four games. Nick Rivera (Florida Gulf Coast) and Hutton Moyer (Pepperdine) both drove in a pair of runs for Willmar, who used four different pitchers to pick up the win. Reliever Brady Anderson (FGCU) picked up the save in relief, his fourth on the season. Patrick McGrath (Belmont) struggled to start for the Huskies, as he gave up five runs on five hits in just four innings of work and took the loss.
Lakeshore 5, Green Bay 4
These two teams combined for five runs over the last two innings, but an early 3-2 lead by the Chinooks was enough to overcome a late Bullfrogs rally in a 5-4 victory. Lakeshore pushed across the go-ahead run and an insurance run in the eighth after Green Bay tied it and they hung on. Carter White (Memphis) hit a solo home run while teammate Andrew Elliot (Wright State) picked up his first win in relief for the Chinooks.
Waterloo 9, Mankato 5
NWL Player of the Night Kevin Kaczmarski (Evansville) drove in four runs, three coming on a three-run home run as the Bucks downed Mankato, 9-5. Waterloo trailed 3-0 after the first but fought back with back-to-back big innings, scoring four runs in the third and three in the fourth. Reliever Nick Veale (Des Moines Area CC) came on in relief in the second and went five shutout innings to pick up the win. Adam Dian (Pitt) picked up his 12th save to tie for the league lead.
