(Rochester, MN) The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced today the signing of three more players for the 2010 season. Richie Jimenez from University of Nevada Las-Vegas, Davy Wright from #7 ranked Texas Christian University and Andrew Mendenhall from #22 ranked Oregon will all be first-time Honkers this summer.
Jimenez is a 5’11”, 180-pound junior infielder from UNLV. He is currently hitting .256 with 7 doubles and 24 RBIs. He has started 45-46 games at short stop for the Running Rebels. Jimenez was the 2009 West Coast League MVP. He hit .354 with 57 hits, 20 RBIs and made only 6 errors in 134 assists, posting a .970 fielding percentage.
Davy Wright is a 6’1” 195-pound redshirt freshman from #7 ranked TCU. He has appeared in 14 games this season hitting .217 with 2 RBI. Wright appeared in one game as a freshman before suffering a season-ending injury. At Country Day High School, Wright was the team’s MVP as a junior and senior. He was ranked by Baseball America as the #93 prospect in the state of Texas and tabbed as the #23 Texas high school recruit by Inside Prep Baseball.
Mendenhall is a 6’3” 195-pound freshman outfielder from #22 ranked Oregon. He has appeared in 24 games this season, collecting 2 RBI is 21 at bats. He was a three-sport athlete in high school, playing football, basketball and baseball. He was a three-time all Big-9 Conference selection in baseball. Mendenhall was named the 2009 Athlete of the Year by the Tri City Herald after earning all Big-9 honors as his team’s quarterback, and first team honors as his team’s shooting guard.
The Rochester Honkers 17th season begins on June 2nd when they travel to Mankato, MN for a 7:05pm start. Their home opener is Thursday, June 3rd against Mankato at Mayo Field starting at 7:05pm.
