Eberle and Steranka

(Mankato, MN) The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club is proud to announce the signing of two infielders for the 2010 season. Sophomore Jordan Steranka of Penn State and sophomore Sam Eberle of Jacksonville State (Alabama) have committed to play for the MoonDogs this summer.

Steranka, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound sophomore, from Pittsburgh, Pa. plays third base for Penn State. He is currently third on the team in runs (8) and RBI (7). In 2009, Steranka led Penn State in average (.365), home runs (6) and RBI (42), and made just six errors in 49 games for the Nittany Lions. He was a third team All-Big Ten pick, and a member of the Big Ten All-Rookie team in 2009.

“Jordan had an excellent freshman year at Penn State and was one of the leading hitters in the Big Ten in 2009,” said manager Mike Orchard. “We are looking forward to him being a team leader for us in 2010.”

Eberle, a 6-foot, 196-pound sophomore, from Chattanooga, Tenn. plays third base for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. As a freshman, Eberle hit .305 and led the team in home runs (11). He was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team in 2009. Eberle is currently leading the team in home runs (5) and tied for second in RBI (19).

“Sam had a great freshman season in 2009 and we are excited to see his power continue in 2010,” Orchard said. “Sam has the ability to hit a home run every time he comes up to bat and we look forward to having that power in Mankato this summer.”

The Mankato MoonDogs home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rochester Honkers. Single game tickets will go on sale in early May.
