(Wisconsin Rapids, WI) The Rafters added some speed to their outfield today with the addition of Ryan McIntyre and a tall right handed pitcher to their staff with the signing of Brandon Van Dam. Both players are currently sophomores at California State University Bakersfield.

In the midst of his sophomore campaign, Van Dam has appeared in 5 games so far for the Roadrunners while making 2 starts. Towering 6’7”, the tall right hander has completed 17.2 innings this spring while notching 15 strikeouts and posting a 5.40 ERA.

Last season, as a freshman, Van Dam finished his spring season with 23 strikeouts in 28.0 innings pitched. He is no stranger to summer collegiate baseball, having pitched last summer for the San Luis Obispo Rattlers in the Central Coast League, where he was named to the league’s all-star team. In 12 appearances, covering 28.0 innings, Van Dam held hitters in check while logging 27 strikeouts and posting a minuscule 1.26 ERA.

A 2008 graduate from Quartz Hill High School in California, Van Dam was highly decorated during his prep career. In his senior year he earned honorable mention recognition on the 2008 Rawlings and Perfect Game Preseason All-American list. He was also listed as the No. 212 ranked player in the nation by Perfect Game USA in 2008 as well as being named the Golden League Pitcher of the Year as a senior. In addition, Van Dam was also a first team all-league and second team All-CIF Division III Southern selection the same year. As a junior, he was named the 2007 Perfect Game USA No. 8 ranked right handed pitcher in California and the No. 9 ranked right handed pitcher in the nation. He was also listed as Perfect Game USA’s No. 30th ranked player in California and the No. 186 ranked player in the nation in 2007. He received recognition as the 2007 All-Valley Player of the Year, 2007 first team All-Golden League selection, and Pitcher of the Year by recording 97 strikeouts in 67 innings and a posting a 1.20 ERA as a junior.

The left handed hitting McIntyre has enjoyed a solid sophomore campaign while appearing in 23 games for the Roadrunners. He is currently tied for fourth on the team with 27 safeties while batting a respectable .266 thus far. Known for his blazing speed, McIntyre has not disappointed this spring by swiping 7 bases in 10 attempts. His 6 doubles rank him fourth on the team in that category and his 16 RBI’s are third most on the team.

Last season, McIntyre was tabbed the starting right fielder for CSUB and led the team with 36 runs scored. He was fourth on the team in hits with 53, including 12 doubles, one triple and four home runs. His quickness on the base paths allowed him to lead the team with 16 stolen bases, while only being caught 4 times. Last year, McIntyre also got a taste of summer baseball while playing for the Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks in the Alaska Baseball League. In 45 games with the Goldpanners he hit .242, including five doubles, two triples and one home run. He also had 8 stolen bases.

In his senior year of high school, in 2008, he hit for a .452 average including 14 doubles, five triples and six home runs. An outfielder at Coronado High School in Nevada, McIntyre was listed as a 2007 Teamonebaseball.com West Top 20 prospect. He hit an impressive .574 during his sophomore year at Coronado High. McIntyre is a native of Henderson, Nevada and is a physical education and kinesiology major at CSUB.
