(Wisconsin Rapids, WI) The Rafters 2010 roster continued to take shape today when the team announced the signings of two infielders from separate West Coast schools. Beck Wheeler (UC-Santa Barbara) and Phil Holinsworth (UC-Riverside) have agreed to join the Rafters for the upcoming Northwoods League season.

Wheeler is currently competing in his third college baseball season, his first for the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos. A college teammate of fellow Rafter Ryan Palermo, Wheeler carries a .318 batting average into tonight’s game against the USC Trojans. Appearing in 23 games this season, Wheeler has 27 hits, 4 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs for the 16-14 UC-Santa Barbara squad.

As a sophomore last season, Wheeler competed at Orange Coast College where he was named to the First Team All-Orange Empire Conference team and was an All-Southern California team pick. He hit .340 with 33 runs scored, two home runs and 30 RBI during the 2009 spring season, while also drawing 16 walks and batting .375 during conference play. In 2008, Wheeler played in four games, making three starts, as a freshman at Pacific. That season he hit .273 with an RBI, two walks and two runs scored.

A native of San Diego, California, Wheeler graduated from St. Augustine High School, where he earned five letters, three in baseball and two in football. He hit .390 with four home runs and 32 RBI in his senior season, earning an All-Eastern League First Team selection. He is a communications major at UCSB with a minor in sport management.

Holinsworth, a freshman infielder, has seen limited action in his first season playing college baseball for the UC-Riverside team this spring. He has one hit in his first 7 college plate appearances thus far while appearing in 7 games.

A Chino Hills, CA native, Holinsworth was a two-time First-Team All-Sierra League honoree and was also named honorable mention for the award in 2006. He was also named All-League for academics in 2006. On a baseball scholarship at UC-Riverside, Holinsworth currently is undecided on his major.
