(Duluth, MN) The Duluth Huskies are pleased to announce the upcoming signing of Drew Benes, a 35th round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals. Benes is the son of former #1 overall draft pick and 1993 MLB All Star Andy Benes.

The 6’3, 210lb right hander will return home to St. Louis before reporting to his Minor League assignment with the Cardinals.

In 2009 with the Huskies, Benes was 1-2 with a 5.03 ERA in 48.1 innings pitched and had 20 strikeouts as a dual role player with the Huskies, also playing 1B. After the season Benes decided to focus primarily on pitching at Arkansas St. where his numbers in 2010 were 2-1 with a 3.04 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 26.2 innings pitched. Benes was scheduled to make his first 2010 Northwoods League appearance with the Huskies tonight versus the St. Cloud River Bats.
