Curtis Granderson (Mankato) of the New York Yankees led the way offensively as New York beat the Kansas City Royals 12-6 at Yankee Stadium. Granderson hit both of his solo homeruns to right field and scored three runs in the win. Both of his homeruns came off of Royals starting pitcher Sean O’Sullivan.

Granderson is currently hitting .244 with nine homeruns and 26 RBI. In his last 18 at-bats he is 7-for-18 and has put together a five-game hitting streak. The Illinois native is starting to heat up offensively after being on the disabled list for the majority of May. He also added his eighth steal of the season in the win.

The Major League Man of the Year in 2009, he established the Grand Kids Foundation to focus on improving opportunities for inner-city youth in the areas of education and youth baseball. A graduate of the University of Illinois-Chicago, Granderson recently released a children’s book, All You Can Be, which encourages children to chase their dreams. He is also an active member of the Action Team national youth volunteer program administered by the Players Trust and Volunteers of America, which is inspiring and training the next generation of volunteers in more than 150 high schools across the United States.
