The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference started play and saw three separate 2010 Northwoods League players earn recognition for their play. The Northern Sun Conference is a NCAA Division-II conference led by Commissioner Butch Raymond.

After the 1st week of play former Eau Claire Express outfielder and current Augustana Viking Nate Baumann was awarded ‘Player of the Week’ for his play against the Colorado School of the Mines. The 2010 NSIC Conference Player of the Year was 9-for-17 on the weekend with nine RBI, four doubles and three stolen bases.

In week two of season both the ‘Player of the Week’ and ‘Pitcher of the Week’ went to 2010 Northwoods League players. The ‘Player of the Week’ was awarded to St. Cloud River Bat infielder Deryk Marks of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. Marks hit .500 (9-for-18) on the weekend against D-II powers University of Nebraska-Omaha and Missouri Southern. The versatile Marks is listed as an infielder, catcher and right-handed pitcher for the Vikings.

Another NWL star earning NSIC honors is right-handed pitcher Kodey Simon from Winona State University. Simon was nearly unhittable in his 1st start of the season for the Warriors as he threw 7.0 scoreless innings of two-hit baseball against Wisconsin-Parkside.  The Cross Plains, WI native struck out 7 of the first 10 batters he faced and took a perfect game into the 5th inning.
