The Waterloo Bucks announced that renovated Riverfront Stadium will play host to the 2011 NJCAA Region XI Division II Baseball Tournament May 12 through the 16th. Seven teams from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference will play in the five-day, 11-game event.

“The ICCAC is extremely happy to be at Riverfront Stadium,” said ICCAC Commissioner Thom McDonald, “and we are very excited to be bringing a highly competitive tournament to the Cedar Valley Community.”

The opening game of the tournament is set to begin at 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 12, followed by two more games that day. Three games are scheduled to be played on both Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14, while two games are set to be played on Sunday, May 15. The tournament championship will be played at 3:30 pm on Sunday, or at 12:00 pm on Monday, May 16, if a double-elimination game is required.

“Baseball fans in the community, no matter if they follow the MLB, NCAA, or high school ball, will be thrilled with the high level of competition and the quality of baseball at this tournament and won’t walk away disappointed from this experience,” said Eric Tubbs, Tournament Director.

Ticket pricing is as follows: $7 for adults; $4 for students (includes college). The tournament is sponsored by the Days Inn and Suites, the Cedar Valley Sports and Entertainment Commission, and Rawlings Baseball.

“After our search for a great venue for this tournament I know that our coaches and student athletes will be extremely pleased with the facility, community support, and overall atmosphere that Riverfront Stadium and Waterloo provides,” said ICCAC Assistant Commissioner Nic Scandrett.

Des Moines Area Community College, and Head Coach and former Bucks’ Manager Dan Fitzgerald, is currently ranked 10th in the NJCAA Top 15 National Poll. A new set of rankings is set to be announced tomorrow (April 27).
