The Northwoods League Playoffs open tonight and one of the key contributors for the NWL’s top team in the regular season, the Alexandria Beetles, is second baseman Tanner Vavra. Tanner has a recognizable last name in Minnesota as his father, Joe, is the Twins hitting coach.

Tanner’s success in baseball is certainly aided by having a dad that is a coach in the big leagues. But the fact that he’s had success despite having vision in only one eye, is what makes his story remarkable.

Patrick Reusse of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune details Tanner’s story.
