In one of the best pitching performances the 2016 Northwoods League season, Thunder Bay's Shannon Broussard (Cedar Valley) threw a complete-game no-hitter against Duluth to highlight Saturday night's action. The games were also the second-to-last day of baseball before the All-Star break, which is from July 18-20.

Madison 2, Kenosha 1

The Madison Mallards scored once in the second inning and added another run in the fourth in a 2-1 victory over the Kenosha Kingfish on the road Saturday night. In the top of the second, Madison's Bryce Carter (Stanford) hit a sacrifice fly to put the Mallards on the board. Kenosha answered in the third with a run-scoring triple from Marty Bechina (Michigan State) to tie the game at one. Mallards' catcher Joe Stefanki (San Jose State) hit a RBI-single in the fourth for the game-winning run. Mike Reitcheck (Penn) picked up the win for Madison, as he went five innings and allowed one run on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Eau Claire 5, Mankato 1

The Eau Claire Express held the Mankato MoonDogs to just one run in a 5-1 victory on the road Saturday. Eau Claire first baseman Austin Guzzo (Iowa) opened up the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning. Mankato came back with a solo shot from Chase Hamilton (Austin Peay) in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to one. Express designated hitter Alex McKenna (Cal Poly) homered in the top of the seventh with another two-run homer to make it a 4-1 game. Eau Claire added another insurance run with a RBI-single from Daniel Herrera (New Mexico Junior College). Brody Rodning (Mankato) threw seven innings and gave up one run on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts to pick up the win.

Rockford 13, Kalamazoo 5

The Rockford Rivets exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning and took down the Kalamazoo Growlers 13-5 on the road. Rockford sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning, and the scoring began with a grand slam hit by first baseman Ryan Long (Texas Tech), who finished the game 2-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored. Rivets' leadoff batter Michael Smith (San Jacinto JC) reached base on all five plate appearances and with three hits and two walks with three runs scored and one RBI. Zach Aring (St. Josephs College) picked up the win for Rockford with seven innings pitched and allowed one run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Wisconsin Rapids 9, Wisconsin 2

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters pounded out 16 hits and led from start to finish in a 9-2 victory over the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Saturday night. Wisconsin Rapids designated hitter Joe Wainhouse (Washington) hit 3-for-5 on the night with four RBI and a run scored, including a three-run homer in the fifth, while Doak Dozier (Virginia) finished 3-for-4 with a walk. Rafters' starting pitcher Jake Repavich (Grand Canyon University) allowed 10 hits but limited the damage to pick up the win. He gave up two runs and a walk with three strikeouts.

Thunder Bay 7, Duluth 0

Thunder Bay starting pitcher Shannon Broussard (Cedar Valley) threw a no-hitter in an incredible performance on the mound to defeat the Duluth Huskies 7-0 on the road. Broussard went the full nine innings and allowed no hits and no runs with three walks and three strikeouts to improve to 2-1 and lowered his earned run average to 2.73 in three starts. The game was scoreless after eight innings before the Border Cats sent 12 batters to the plate and  rallied for seven in the top of the ninth for the 7-0 victory.

Lakeshore 4, La Crosse 3

All of the runs scored by the Lakeshore Chinooks came from a pair of home runs hit by Kevin Riley (Chaffey CC) in a 4-3 home in over the La Crosse Loggers on Saturday night. La Crosse got on the board first with a run in the top of the second on a leadoff home run from Griffin Conine (Duke) before Riley launched a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning. Three innings later, Riley led off the fifth inning with a solo home run to give the Chinooks a 4-2 advantage. The Loggers scored a run in the ninth but left a man at third base to end the game.

Battle Creek 7, Green Bay 3

The Battle Creek Bombers used a pair of three-run innings to defeat the Green Bay Bullfrogs 7-3 on the road Saturday night. Both teams combined for nine errors, and their were five unearned runs scored in the game. Green Bay committed five errors and left 12 runners on base in the loss. Battle Creek first baseman Kevin Dupree (Middle Tennessee State) hit 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Bombers' starting pitcher Cody Puckett (Middle Tennessee State) picked up the victory, as he threw five innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.

Willmar 8, Waterloo 6

The Willmar Stingers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and held on to defeat the Waterloo Bucks 8-6 on the road Saturday night. Willmar scored once in the first, three in the second and added another in the third to create the five-run deficit. Waterloo cut the lead to two with a three-run fourth inning, but the Stingers led 8-4 going into the bottom of the ninth. The Bucks threatened with a pair of runs but not enough for the victory. Kiko Garcia (Pepperdine) earned the win for Willmar in six innings of work. He allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.

St. Cloud 13, Rochester 3

The St. Cloud Rox blew out the Rochester Honkers 13-3 on Saturday night at home. St. Cloud pounded out 13 hits, and four of them came from its rightfielder. Marcus Carson (University of Kentucky) hit 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBI, including a home run. Centerfielder Michael Strem (Boston College) knocked in five runs for the Rox, and Brendan Illies (University of North Carolina) hit 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. St. Cloud used five pitchers in the game, and nobody threw more than two innings for the win.
