There have been some big offensive performances throughout the Northwoods League in the 2016 season, including 17 from Madison on Sunday, but nothing has compared to the Wisconsin Woodchucks' offensive output with 22 runs scored in a win over Battle Creek, which is the most runs scored in a game this season. Defensively, we saw the Willmar Stingers complete one of the best pitching outings of the season, as they nearly combined for a no-hitter from two pitchers.

Rochester 3, Thunder Bay 1

The Rochester Honkers scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning in a 3-1 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats on the road on Sunday. Thunder Bay scored the first run of the game with one in the bottom of the third inning. With the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, Rochester's first baseman Casey Worden (UC Riverside) doubled to score two runs, and another run scored on an error on the play to give the Honkers their 3-1 advantage. Rochester starting pitcher Cameron Aufderheide (Saddle Back College) threw eight innings and gave up one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts to pick up the victory.

Madison 17, Kalamazoo 7

The Madison Mallards exploded for a 17-7 victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers with 17 hits in the game on the road. Mallards' centerfielder Cameron Frost (Washington State) hit 4-for-6 at the plate with four RBI and three runs scored, while first baseman Nate Palace (Valparaiso) finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run scored and a walk. On the mound, Madison's Westin Wuethrich (Washington) threw six innings and allowed three runs on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts to pick up the victory.

Wisconsin 22, Battle Creek 7

The Wisconsin Woodchucks completed one of the best offensive displays of the season at home on Sunday in a 22-7 victory over the Battle Creek Bombers. Wisconsin scored 21 of its runs in just two innings. The Woodchucks scored 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning and erupted for another 10 runs in the fifth. Wisconsin finished with 19 hits, and 11 batters recorded at least one hit in the game. Woodchucks' shortstop George Janca (Texas A&M) hit 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Tony Gudino (UC Riverside) finished 3-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI.

Lakeshore 7, Green Bay 2

The Lakeshore Chinooks took down the Green Bay Bullfrogs 7-2 on the road Sunday. Lakeshore's starting pitcher Jack Landwehr (Illinois State) threw eight innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts to pick up the win. Chinooks' second baseman Matt Reardon (Florida Gulf Coast) hit 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored, and third baseman Owen Miller (Illinois State) finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk, two RBI and a run scored in the victory for Lakeshore.

Eau Claire 4, Waterloo 2

The Eau Claire Express beat the Waterloo Bucks 4-2 at home on Sunday. Both teams scored one run in the first inning, and the Express scored three in the bottom of the fifth on a home run from rightfielder Daulton Varsho (UW-Milwaukee) for his 13th home run of the season, which set a new single-season record for Eau Claire. The Bucks scored the final run of the game on a solo shot hit by Adam McGinnis (Western Illinois) for his 12th homer of the year. Eau Claire's starter Ryan Zimmerman (St. Thomas) threw six innings and gave up one run on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Willmar 6, Rockford 0

The Willmar Stingers nearly had a no-hitter in a 6-0 victory over the Rockford Rivets on the road on Sunday. Stingers' starter Pearson McMahan (St. Johns River State) threw eight and scoreless innings and gave up one hit and nine walks with six strikeouts to pick up the win. Anthony Garza (Missouri State) came on and finished the game with a scoreless ninth with a strikeout. Willmar finished with 16 hits in the game, and designated hitter Justin Toerner (Cal State Northridge) finished 4-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored.

Wisconsin Rapids 10, Kenosha 8

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters scored the first five runs of the game and held on to beat the Kenosha Kingfish 10-8 at home on Sunday. Wisconsin Rapids led 8-3 after five innings before Kenosha went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at eight after 8 1/2 innings. The Rafters scored twice in the bottom half of the eighth and held the Kingfish scoreless in the ninth. Wisconsin Rapids' catcher Rob Calabrese (Illinois-Chicago) finished 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBI and three runs scored in the Rafters' victory.

Duluth 3, La Crosse 2

The Duluth Huskies scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the La Crosse Loggers 3-2 on the road. La Crosse scored its two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer from Gavin Johns (UCLA) for his first homer of the season. The Huskies remained scoreless until the ninth when they scored three runs to take their first lead of the game. Duluth's starter Drew Molin (St. Thomas) threw six innings and allowed two runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in a no decision. Marcus Frederickson (Minnesota-Duluth) threw two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win, and Wade Regas (Texas Wesleyan) closed out the ninth for the save.

Mankato 3, St. Cloud 2

The Mankato MoonDogs scored the final three runs of the game to beat the St. Cloud Rox 3-2 on the road Sunday. St. Cloud scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth, but the MoonDogs scored a run in the sixth and seventh to tie the game at two. In the top of the ninth, Mankato's Bryce Adams (LSU) doubled to score the game-winning run for the MoonDogs. Mankato starting pitcher Reece Eddins (Nebraska) went five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in a no decision.
