Troy Newell (Western Kentucky) earned pitcher of the night after just giving up one run in 7.1 innings. His first hit came to lead off the second. Newell gave up just the one run in the third when he let up a solo home run. He retired the next seven and didn’t face more than four for the rest of the game. Newell ended his outing striking out six and giving up just five hits.
