The Northwoods League Comes Out With a Bang on the First Day of July
The Waterloo Bucks and Thunder Bay Border Cats started off the afternoon with a final score 9-7. The Bucks game together as a team scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth to capture the win. The Duluth Huskies were demolished by the St. Cloud Rox with a ending game score 8-3.
Waterloo Bucks 9, Thunder Bay Border Cats 7
The Waterloo Bucks rallied in the bottom of the ninth scoring four runs for the win over the Thunder Bay Border Cats this afternoon. The final score was 9-7. Waterloo’s Patrick Ferguson (Kent State) and Blake Wagenseller (Cal Poly) hit one home run each. Ferguson also had two RBI during the game. Border Cats Bryce Jorgenson (Minnesota-Crookston) received one triple hit. The winning pitcher was Jimmy Smiley (Columbia) who pitched three innings giving up four runs and five hits. Bucks Dylan Phillips (Kansas State) came in for the saving pitch in the last inning. Thunder Bay’s losing pitcher was Tyler Hansen (Texas Southern University).
St. Cloud Rox 8, Duluth Huskies 3
The St. Cloud Rox demolished the Duluth Huskies ending the game score 8-3. The Rox had a total of eight runs and nine hits. Jordan Barth (Augustana University) had one home run, one double, and four RBI. The winning pitcher was St. Cloud’s RJ Martinez (Minot State) pitching three runs and four hits during his five innings at the mound. Rhyse Dee (Wake Forest University) swooped in for the saving pitch with four innings giving up no runs and one hit. The losing pitcher was Duluth’s Dennis Boatman (UCLA).
Madison Mallards 6, Lakeshore Chinooks 7
The Lakeshore Chinooks rallied for the win over the Madison Mallards scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth. The final score was a close 7-6. Chinook’s Nathan Aide (Madison College) and Griffin Doersching (Northern Kentucky) both hit home runs. Aide also received two RBI. Madison’s Logan Michaels (Virginia) hit one double and two RBI. The winning pitcher was Ryan Schmit (Butler) who pitched one inning giving up no runs, one hit, and two strike outs. The losing pitcher was Mallards Tanner Bradley (Rend Lake College).
Kokomo Jackrabbits 4, Rockford Rivets 5
Kokomo Jackrabbits were beaten by the Rockford Rivets with a close and nail-bitting score of 5-4. The Rivets had a total of five runs and twelve hits. Josh Dudden (Creighton) hit one double along with one RBI for Rockford. Jackrabbits Denzel Clarke (CSU-Northridge) received one double hit and one RBI. The winning pitcher was Anthony Holubecki (Notre Dame) and the losing pitcher was Kokomo’s Joey Haass (Delaware).
Eau Claire Express 9, Mankato MoonDogs 2
The Eau Claire Express won against the Mankato MoonDogs after a dominating final score 9-2. The Express had a total of nine runs and nine hits throughout the game. Tanner Craig (Evansville) hit one home run along with one RBI for the MoonDogs. Eau Claire’s Vincent Martinez (Stanford) received one double hit and three RBI. The winning pitcher was Craig Cole (Cal Poly) pitched a total of six innings with two hits, five hits, and six strike outs. Express Nick Herold (Winona) came in for the saving pitch during the last three innings giving up no runs, no hits, and four strike outs. The losing pitcher was Mankato’s Nick Hull (Grand Canyon).
Wisconsin Woodchucks 11, Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 13
The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders defeated the Wisconsin Woodchucks in a impressive offensive battle with an ending score 13-11. The Woodchucks had a strong first inning scoring six runs but it wasn’t enough to override the Spiders for the win. Fond du Lac’s Andrew Bullock (Western Carolina) hit one home run and three RBI. Wisconsin’s Byron Murray (Lynn University) received an impressive double, triple, and an RBI. The winning pitcher was Maxwell Cioffi (Mississippi) who pitched no runs and no hits during his three inning time of work. The losing pitcher was Woodchucks Nolan Lebamoff (Kankakee Community College).
