It all comes down to one game for the Wisconsin-Illinois Pod, as the La Crosse Loggers will square off with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on Saturday in Fond du Lac for the pod championship. Both the Loggers and Dock Spiders picked up wins Friday night. In Kalamazoo, the Mac Daddies split a doubleheader with the Bombers, thanks to a no-hitter in the second game.

Battle Creek Bombers 5 Kalamazoo Mac Daddies 4
The Bombers scored three runs in the sixth inning to walk-off the Mac Daddies in the first game on Friday night. Alex Baumann (Minnesota-Morris) was the hero, lacing an RBI single into left field to score Josh Dudden (Oakland University) in the final frame. Baumann would finish the game 2-4, with a pair of RBI to lead the Battle Creek offense. Joe Tany (Concordia University) got the start for the Bombers and threw five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts. Cade Thune (Kalamazoo College) threw one relief inning, allowing two runs on no hits to pick up his first win of the season.

Dave Arumbrustmacher (Western Michigan) threw a five inning no-hitter to split the doubleheader for the Mac Daddies. He allowed one unearned run while allowing three walks and recording five strikeouts on 69 pitches. Shawn Goosenberg (Northwestern University) was 2-3 for the Mac Daddies, while Ethan O’Donnell (Northwestern) went 1-2, with an RBI. Parker Murdie (Grand Valley State) Kyle Ashworth (Cal Poly) Jake Martin (College of The Desert) and Connor McGuire (UC-Irvine) also recorded hits for Kalamazoo.

The Pit Spitters picked up a walk-off win Friday thanks to a Brant Kym (Hope College) single into center field that allowed Brennan Chisholm (Canisius College) to score the game-winning run. Kym finished the game 1-2, with an RBI and a run scored. Gaetano Vallone (Davenport University) was the other Pit Spitter to have an RBI, going 1-1 with a double. Mike Hohlfeld (Salisbury University) got the start for Traverse City and pitched four shutout innings, allowing a pair of runs and recording eight strikeouts. Zach Haefer (Davenport University) threw three innings, allowing a run on three hits with one strikeout to pick up the win.

Kenosha Series
Kenosha Kingfish 18 K-Town Bobbers 0
The Kingfish set the tone early, scoring a Northwoods League record 16 runs in the bottom of the first as they handily beat the Bobbers Friday night. Joe Vyskocil (UW-Milwaukee) went 3-5 for Kenosha, with four runs batted in. Marc Filia (UC-San Diego) was 1-5, with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored, while Matt Korman (UW-Whitewater) went 2-6, with a double and three RBI. Brock Weirather (Grinnell College) threw six innings for the Kingfish, allowing no runs on four hits with three strikeouts to improve to 2-0 on the season. Jarrett Ramer (Upper Iowa), Nick Meyer (Otterbein University) and Jacob DeLabio (Carthage College) all threw shutout innings in relief.

Ronald Sweeny (Minnesota) hit a solo home run to right in the top of the ninth to break the deadlock, sending the Loggers to the Wisconsin-Illinois Pod championship game on Saturday. Sweeny was the offensive leader for La Crosse, going 2-4 on the night, with the game-winning home run. He was the only La Crosse batter to have multiple hits. Travis Weston (Boise State) threw six innings for the Loggers, allowing no runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Al Pesto (Southeastern University) threw one and one-third of an inning, allowing no runs or hits while recording one strikeout to pick up the win.

The Dock Spiders posted four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish, as they advanced to the championship game of the Wisconsin-Illinois Pod, where they will host the Loggers on Saturday night. Matt Bottcher (University of Illinois at Chicago) was 4-4 for the Dock Spiders, with two runs scored. Aaron Anderson (Liberty) was 1-3, with a double and two runs batted in. Ryan Robison (Purdue University Fort Wayne) picked up the win, throwing two and two-thirds of an inning, allowing no runs on two hits with three strikeouts. Theo Denlinger (Bradley University) wrapped up the game with a shutout inning, with a strikeout.

North Dakota Pod
Bismarck Bull Moose 3 Mandan Flickertails 2
The Bull Moose scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth to slip past the Flickertails. The winning run came on an RBI single off the bat of Quentin Evers (University of Mary), that allowed NAKATSUKA to score from second base. Nakatsuka finished the game 3-4, with two doubles and two runs scored. Adam Axtell (Point Loma Nazarene University) was 2-4, with a pair of RBI. Sawyer Rolland (Minnesota State-Fergus Falls) got the start for Bismarck and threw six innings, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts. He gave way to Justin Goldstein (Orange Coast College), who threw three scoreless innings with four strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.
