The Kalamazoo Mac Daddies are on top of the Michigan Pod after defeating the Traverse City Pit Spitters 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Turtle Creek Stadium. The Mac Daddies opened the scoring in the third, scoring three runs on three hits, with one Traverse City error.

Shawn Goosenberg (Northwestern) started the inning with a one-out single to left field, advancing to second when Brett Barrera (Stanford) singled into left field. Carson Greene (Stanford) then stepped up to the plate and hit into a fielder’s choice, which allowed Goosenberg to score, while Barrera moved over to second. After Anthony Calarco (Northwestern) drew a walk, Ethan O’Donnell (Northwestern) hit a single into center field, allowing Barrera and Greene to score, putting the Mac Daddies up 3-0. They added an insurance run in the ninth, when Blake Dunn (Western Michigan) led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring when Goosenberg hit a sacrifice fly.

O’Donnell led the Mac Daddies offense, going 2-4, with two runs batted in. Joseph Kalafut (Edgewood College) was 2-3, with a double while Goosenberg had a pair of hits and an RBI. Hayden Berg (Western Michigan) was tabbed to start the game for Kalamazoo and threw a gem, lasting six innings, allowing an earned run on a hit with nine strikeouts. Ricky Clark (Davenport University) threw three scoreless innings to lock down the game, earning the save.
