Koch Hits Game Winning Grand Slam

Jimmie Koch (Florida Tech) helped the Honkers win in dramatic fashion Friday night. The 6'2'' right fielder blasted a grand slam in the 10th inning to break a 5-5 tie at Mayo Field in Rochester, MN. Koch only had one hit on the night, but made it count as he was the hero for the Honkers.

Custons Perfect at the Plate Tuesday Night

Garrett Custons (Air Force) was a perfect 6-for-6 Tuesday night against the La Crosse Loggers at Carson Park in Eau Claire, WI. The 5'10'' catcher drove in four runs and scored three runs to help the Express beat the Loggers 14-3. Custons is currently hitting .455 with eight RBI in 2011 for the 2010 NWL Champions. Custons is a temporary player in 2011 as he will return to duty at Air Force later in the summer.

Reida Keeps Mankato Undefeated

Matt Reida (Kentucky) of the Mankato MoonDogs had an unforgettable night at the plate on Monday. Reida was 4-for-6 with three RBIs and one run scored to help the MoonDogs defeat the Duluth Huskies 11-9. Reida doubled twice in the game and is currently hitting .259 with eight RBIs. The 5'11' 175-pound infielder was taken in the 47th round by the Chicago White Sox.

Beyer Brings It at the Plate

From Wisconsin-Whitewater, Matt comes to the Honkers as a NWL rookie. Batting 2.73 for the Warhawks, Matt played in 47 of 50 games this past season. Second on the team in stolen bases with 11, Matt adds more speed to the Honkers. He also had a little pop in his bat during the Warhawks season, hitting three round trippers and 9 doubles, with one triple.

Golden Impressive for Mallards

Jay Golden (Blackhawk CC) had a very nice night Saturday night for the Madison Mallards as they beat the La Crosse Loggers 14-2. The Davenport, Iowa native was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI. Two of Golden's three hits were doubles. Golden hit .419 this past season for Blackhawk CC and scored 121 times in his short career.

Sommerfeld Paces Mankato Offense

Scott Sommerfeld (Missouri) paced the Mankato MoonDogs offense Friday night as they exploded for sixteen runs on fifteen hits against the Rochester Honkers. Sommerfeld and the MoonDogs beat the Honkers 16-6 at Franklin Rogers Park. The 6'1'' designated hitter drove in three runs and scored every time he reached base Friday night. Sommerfeld is currently hitting .417 for the MoonDogs who are off to a hot 3-0 start.

Wass Swinging Hot Bat for Brainerd

Wade Wass (Meridian CC) was 3-for-5 in a Lunkers win against the Alexandria Beetles on Thursday night. Wass drove in three runs and scored two to help the Lunkers to victory and is currently hitting .400 in 2011. Wass spent 2011 with Meridian Community College in Florida where he hit .370 in 48 games and had 11 home runs and 39 RBIs.

McQuillan Powers Mallards with Four Hits

Mike McQuillan (Iowa) led the Madison Mallards to victory on opening night against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters with a four hit night. The athletic left-handed hitting infielder was 4-for-5 on the night with a run scored and a stolen base. The junior infielder finished the season as the Hawkeye's best hitter with a .330 average and 31 RBI.

McGuiggan Powers Express

Steve McGuiggan (Illinois-Chicago) blasted two home runs Sunday afternoon to lead the Eau Claire Express to a 2010 NWL Championship. McGuiggan, an Apple Valley, MN native, hit two-run home runs in the 3rd and 5th inning to give Eau Claire a 4-0 lead. The 5'11'' righty finished the afternoon 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. The center fielder for Eau Claire also threw out Andrew Mendenhall (Oregon) in the top of the 5th as he was trying to score the Honkers 1st run of the game.

Elder At It Again for Rochester

Chris Elder (Oral Roberts) was at it again for the Rochester Honkers as he drove in three runs to propel the Honkers into a decisive game three in the Summer Collegiate World Series. Elder only had one hit on the night, but made it count as he blasted a three-run homer in the 4th inning. The left handed hitting Elder scored three runs on the night, drove in three and walked three times.
