Smith Shines for Stingers
Jordan Smith (St. Cloud State) of the Willmar Stingers continued his league leading hitting with a 3-for-4 night against the Duluth Huskies. The 2010 All-Stars performance helped the Stingers beat the Duluth Huskies 6-5. Smith also had a triple, three RBI and a walk in the victory. Smith currently is hitting .400 in 170 at-bats this year. Steve Nyistzor (Rutgers) of the St. Cloud River Bats had four hits in a 10-1 victory.
Steranka Strikes In MoonDogs Victory
Jordan Steranka (Penn State) had a great performance after his All-Star appearance in Eau Claire. Steranka helped lead the Mankato MoonDogs over the Rochester Honkers 2-1. The 3rd basemen was 2-for-3 with one run scored with two RBI and two walks. Steranka improved his average to .321 and hit his third homerun of the season.
Threlkeld’s Perfect Day
Mark Threlkeld (Louisiana Tech) was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored against the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers. Threlkeld now has seven homeruns on the season with a .284 batting average. He is tied with Huskies teammate Cody Asche (Nebraska) and Mallard Harold Riggins (NC State)for the league lead in homeruns (7). Joel Hutter (Dallas Baptist) had four hits for the Green Bay Bullfrogs in their win against the Wisconsin Woodchucks
Davis Drives in Five
Madison Mallard catcher Adam Davis (Illinois) was a big part of the Mallard's offensive outburst Saturday in Waterloo. Davis was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI against the Waterloo Bucks. The catcher improved his average to .364 on the season and currently has 20 extra base hits.
Asche Sets Tone Again
Duluth Huskies Cody Asche (Nebraska) was at it again at the plate on Friday night. Asche was 3-for-5 on the night with one run scored and five RBI. Asche improved his batting average to .311 and had a triple on then night. Cody is currently tied for the league lead in home runs at seven with Harold Riggins (NC State/Madison)
Smith At It Again
2010 NWL All-Star Jordan Smith (St. Cloud State) showed the Rochester Honkers why he is leading the league in batting average. Smith went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI on the night to help beat the Honkers 7-5. The Willmar native was a double away from the cycle and also had a stolen base. La Crosse Logger Mike Marjama (Sacramento City CC) also hit well Thursday night. The third basemen had three hits against the Waterloo Bucks in game one of the double header.
Riggins Racks Up Two Home Runs
Harold Riggins (North Carolina State) had a monster day at the plate for the Madison Mallards in a losing effort. Riggins was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. His two hits on the day were home runs which ties him for first in the NWL in home runs with seven. The NC State infielder is currently hitting .366 with 17 RBI. Riggins will be competing in the NWL All-Star Home Run Derby this upcoming week in Eau Claire.
Gaines Goes Yard
Austin Gaines (Florida Gulf Coast) helped the Duluth Huskies beat the Rochester Honkers by a score of 9-5 Tuesday night. Gaines improved his average to .314 after going 3-for-4. He also scored three runs and knocked in three runs of his own. He also hit a home run. Zach McCool (Iowa) was a perfect 4-for-4 for the Waterloo Bucks tonight.
Asche Has Career Night
Cody Asche (Nebraska) had the best offensive night in the NWL on Monday night against the Rochester Honkers. Asche was 5-for-6 with two runs scored and six RBI. He accounted for more than half of the Huskies offense at Mayo Field on Monday with two of his five hits being homeruns. Asche improved his average to .294 with seven homeruns and 37 RBI.
O’Dowd Leads Loggers
Chris O’Dowd (Dartmouth) of the La Crosse Loggers had a great day at the plate on Sunday afternoon. O’Dowd went 3-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI. O’Dowd hit his third homerun of the season and improved his batting average to .321. The Colorado native was selected to the 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team. O’Dowd was drafted in the 40th round by the Oakland Athletics in the MLB First Year Player Draft.
Gaedele Goes Off
Kyle Gaedele (Valparaiso) led the Madison Mallards to victory Saturday night over the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Gaedele was 4-for-6 with two runs scored, a RBI and a walk. Gaedele is currently hitting .322 in 35 games with 13 extra base hits. Rafael Lopez (Florida State) also had a great day at the plate going 2-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored for the Mallards.
Graham Can Do It All
J.R. Graham (Santa Clara) of the Madison Mallards earned the win and had the game winning hit against the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Friday night. Graham threw a scorless tenth inning to earn the win and drove in Kyle Gaedele with the game winning RBI. Josef Terry of Rochester had a four hit performance against the Thunder Bay Border Cats.
