Renda Helps Bats Bounce Back

Tony Renda (California) was a pefect 3-3 with four runs for the River Bats in their 8-4 win over Mankato, one night after getting no-hit. Renda reached base in all five of his plate apperances, tripling, singling twice and adding a walk, hit by pitch and stolen base.

Moore Slugs Border Cats Past Beetles

Walker Moore (Cal State Fullerton) had two doubles and a home run for the Thunder Bay Border Cats in their 11-2 thrashing of the Alexandria Beetles at Port Arthur Stadium. Moore was 3-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and hit by pitch.

Tommasini’s Bat, Glove Fuel Honkers Win

John Tommasini (Oregon State) was inserted in to the top of the order and he led the way for the Rochester Honkers with a 3-for-3 day and two runs scored as Rochester defeated St. Cloud 4-2. He also walked twice, reaching base in all five plate appearnces. With the tying run on base Tommasini made an excellent diving stop at second base to earn the final out of the game.

Kvasnicka’s 10th Inning Single Lifts Lunkers

With one out and men on first and second in the tenth, Mike Kvasnicka (Minnesota) shot a dagger through the Mankato MoonDogs heart and lifted the Lunkers to the 1-0 win at Mills Field. Kvasnicka was 2-4 with the RBI on the night.

Humphries Drives In River Bats Winning Run

Brian Humphries (Pepperdine) lined a single over the head of the second baseman in the ninth to secure a 9-8 come-from-behind win over the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers. Humphries finished the night 3-6 with two runs scored and two RBI's, including the game winner.

Giller’s 4th Hit Puts Bucks On Top

Tied in the bottom of the ninth, All-Star shortstop Michael Giller (Illinois) hit a two-out, two-RBI single to center to break the deadlock and lift the Waterloo Bucks to a 4-2 victory over Battle Creek. Giller had an outstanding night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI. He continues to be the toughest out in the Northwoods League, leading all others with a .363 average.

Piwinica-Worms Leads Lunkers Over MoonDogs

Will Piwinica-Worms (Duke) accounted for all but one Brainerd run Sunday evening in Mankato. His 2-4 night included a two-RBI single in the second for the game's first runs, and another RBI single in the eight to give the Lunkers a two-run cushion and a 4-2 victory over the MoonDogs.

Sabourin’s Two Two-Run Hits Lead Mallards

Jerrud Sabourin (Indiana) provided the big blow with a huge 8-pitch at-bat before a two-run double to right drove in the first two runs of the game. In the seventh he provided another two-run hit to put the Mallards on top 7-2. They went on to win by the final score of 7-4 over the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Sabourin finished the night 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored.

Calhoun’s Bat, Arm Carry Express To Win

Kole Calhoun (Arizona St.) had arguably one of the most dominate nights in recent NWL history. He finished a single shy of the cycle going 3-6 with two runs and four RBI. He also pitched the final three innings, not allowing a hit while striking out five Bombers. In the bottom of the 13th with a 2-2 count Calhoun deposited the pitch over the right-center field wall to give the Express and himself the win.

Robinson’s Homer, Double, 4 RBI Lifts Bullfrogs

Kyle Robinson (Indian River State College) went 2-4 with 4 RBI to lead the Green Bay Bullfrogs to a 9-1 victory in Madison. Robinson capped Green Bay's big first inning with a homerun to deep left field, his second in three games. His first of the season came on Tuesday in Green Bay as he smashed it off the scoreboard at Jones Sign Field inside Joannes Stadium breaking a pair of lights in the process. Robinson's other hit Thursday was a RBI double to right-center.

Krizan Doubles, Homers In Bucks Win

Outfielder Jason Krizan (Dallas Baptist) cranked his first homerun of the season, hit a double, scored three runs and brought in one run in the Waterloo Bucks 12-3 rout of the Eau Claire Express.

Melendres Leads Duluth’s Offensive Outbreak

Duluth's Nathan Melendres (Miami) led a 16-hit attack for the Huskies in game two of their doubleheader with Mankato. Melendres was 4-5 with three runs, two RBI and a stolen base to help the Huskies to a 10-6 victory in 11 innings over the MoonDogs.
