St. Cloud — You can't win them all. The 1st place Rox fell for the first time since last Friday, losing 5-2. They still lead the North by one game. After brilliant performances from several players, and timely hitting St. Cloud struggled at points in Saturday's contest.
There were some bright spots despite the loss. John Matthews (Kent State) had an RBI single in the 5th inning that marked his second of the season. He also made a couple sharp defensive plays over at shortstop. Matthews has proved he can be a solid two-way player this summer. The freshman had a save two days ago, and started again tonight and showed his potential.
Drew Avans (Southeast Louisiana) started in Leftfield the last couple games, but came out to pitch Saturday. He pitched two innings, and only allowed one baserunner on a walk. The lefty also struck out three Bucks.
Jackson Rose (Minnesota) made another relief appearance in the 9th inning and did not give up any walks or hits.
The Bucks did enough damage in the 1st where they scored a run, and then added three more in 5th inning to propel them to their 8th win of the year.
St. Cloud looks to bounce back tomorrow night when they battle the Stingers for the first time this season. First pitch is set for 4:05 PM. Tomorrow is Turn Back the Clock Day presented by Capital One. Also, the 1st 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Rox poster schedule sponsored by Rengel Printing. Sunday is also Coborn's Kids Day! Kids have the chance to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game.
