Otto Kemp Earns NWL All-Star Game MVP

The 2021 Northwoods League All-Star game was held in Mankato, MN on Tuesday July 21st and the Rox were well represented. The Rox had tied a league-high five All-Stars on the Great Plains team and was also coached by the Rox Coaching staff of David Bellamy, Nick Studdard, and Conor Behrens.

Otto Kemp batted second for the Great Plains. Kemp had the best night at the plate by any player on both teams, which earned him the NWL All-Star MVP. Kemp went 2-4 with two runs scored, one RBI, and one home run that went opposite field. He also had a walk. His defense on the field was perfect also he assisted in throwing three runners out.

On Tuesday, the Rox had three players start for the Great Plains All-Star team. Hunter Dollander and Kevin Davis pitched in the game as well.

Andrew Pinckney led off for the Great Plains. While he did not record a hit, it wasn’t for a lack of effort as he had two hard-hit balls that were nearly singles. His defense did not disappoint as he was perfect in attempts in the outfield and nearly had the catch of the year, diving out for a catch.

Caleb Ricketts batted in the four spot. He went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI. He also walked once. Starting the night behind the plate, Ricketts played the whole game after moving to first base in the top of the fifth inning. Ricketts also participated in the Home Run Derby on Monday, hitting seventh for the Great Plains, and was able to help secure a 69-67 victory over the Great Lakes.  Ricketts added four home runs in the event.
